Who is Jamaica Cullen?

Jamaica Cullen is a Filipino American raised in Ewa Beach, Hawaii. Her parents immigrated to Hawaii from Pampanga, Philippines in the early 90's when Jamaica was only 4 years old along with her 6 other siblings. Her parents worked multiple jobs to provide for their family. Through their guidance, she has learned what it means to work hard and persevere through life's adversities.

Jamaica is an alumni of James Campbell High School, Ilima Intermediate School, and Ewa Elementary. She continued her education at the University of Hawaii at Hilo completing her Bachelor's Degree in Communication and Educational Studies. After graduating, she taught first grade at St. Joseph School in Waipahu for 5 years. While teaching, she attended Chaminade University of Honolulu and completed her Master's Degree in Education in Instructional Leadership.

During her first year teaching at St. Joseph she met her husband, Sy Cullen. They got married in 2019, purchased a home together in the same community they grew up in, and are now expecting their first child. 

Jamaica has been working at the Hawaii State Capitol during the legislative session as a Committee Clerk since 2019. Through this experience, Jamaica continued her passion for public service and decided to run for public office to serve the people of House District 39.
